Whether featured in a decorative object or frame, used alone in a still life, or part of a larger composition, flowers were always a favorite motif of Charles. He not only saw them as symbols of springtime, abundance, and rebirth, but he also loved gardening and populated the grounds of his Westport, Connecticut, home with flowers. Glory Bower is one of three large-scale horizontal panels of flowers that Charles is known to have painted.
