Frederick Arthur Verner (1836-1928), Canada
Caracas, Venezuela, 1865
Watercolor on paper
Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros
Verner travelled internationally on occasion to promote his artistic career and to study different landscapes. In this watercolor he faithfully depicts the Antímano Valley, on the outskirts of Caracas. The native flora, including the Agave sisalana on the hill with the man on horseback and the Chaguaramo trees lining the road, combine with the exactitude of the topography to create an accurate rendering of the region.
