ABOUT THE EVENT

Gallery Talk | Expanded Field: Photography from the Collection of NBMAA

Join portrait photographer Christine Breslin for an in-depth look at her works currently on display in Expanded Field: Photography from the Collection of NBMAA. Her portraits feature compelling looks at young people who lived in Hartford, CT, from 1995–2000; Breslin's documentary photography combines a personal interest in understanding the lives of others with a curiosity towards social and political issues. This allows Breslin to not only photograph but listen to her subject and become a storyteller.

Featured Expanded Field photographers Raymond Smith and Leonard Hellerman will also be joining us to provide some insight into their works and methods.

The NBMAA’s Director of Education, Cindy Cormier, will open this talk by introducing a few of the Colonial portraits in the NBMAA's permanent collection, reflecting on what it meant to people 250 years ago to have their portrait painted, as well as who is represented in these works.
