ABOUT THE EVENT

Curatorial Conversation | "Bill Viola: The Raft"

Join Lisa Williams, Associate Curator, and Cynthia Cormier, Director of Education, for a Curatorial Conversation focusing on Bill Viola’s dramatic video The Raft.

In addition to a viewing of the video, we will discuss the historical precedent and inspiration to Viola’s work, including Theodore Gericault’s 1819 painting The Raft of the Medusa. This lecture and talk will also explore how The Raft depicts the human condition, the resilience of humanity, and individual response to unimaginable stresses.

Attendees will meet in the Mary and George Cheney Gallery prior to the talk. Gallery stools will be available.
