The Power of Love | A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Don’t miss our week-long virtual celebration to commemorate MLK and his strides for equality. This series of events presented by the NBMAA’s Community Advisory Group will focus on Dr. King’s message of love through special speakers, community chats, story times, performances, and more! The celebration kicks off with free admission to the NBMAA on January 18, followed by FREE nightly Zoom events. New Britain residents can enjoy free admission to the Museum through January 22.
This week of events includes two calls for submissions, one that is part of Wednesday's Kids' Hour, and one that is part of Thursday's Open Mic Night. For more information, please view the links below:
Love Loud Open Mic | MLK Quote Project
Free Admission to the NBMAA
Monday, January 18, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, visitors can enjoy free admission to the NBMAA and complimentary take-n-make activities to do in the galleries and at home!
Zoom | Opening Commemoration
Tuesday, January 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Hear local leaders reflect on Dr. King's legacy and discuss how his words still ring true today. Meet members of the NBMAA's Community Advisory Group and join them in a conversation around Dr. King's message of love and why it was chosen as this week's theme.
Zoom | Kids' Hour Featuring Local Heroes
Wednesday, January 20 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Join a story time with special guests Captain Ricardo Mickens from NBFD, Bishop Rha-Sheen and Pastor Briggitte Brown from Right Now Ministries, and our friends at the New Britain Public Library. Museum staff will showcase inspired artwork by local students, and present the MLK Acts of Service Award to outstanding youth in the community. All event viewers will be entered into a book giveaway! This event is presented in partnership with the New Britain Public Library.

Thursday, January 21, 6:30-8 p.m.
Come together for a night of the arts! Enjoy a wide range of visual art and performances from local talent that captivate sentiments of love through music, poetry, dance, and art.
Zoom | Reflect and Rejoice with Grace Church Praise Team
Friday, January 22, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Closing the celebration is the Grace Church Praise Team performing songs in tribute to Dr. King. Praise Team member and poet Tre Brown will deliver a speech titled “The Dream Still Lives.”
