Professional Development Day | The Art of Emotion
In this full or half-day teacher workshop, explore how art looking and art making can underscore and enhance social emotional learning. Throughout the day, there will be tours of the NBMAA’s special exhibitions Ellen Carey: Struck by Light and Walter Wick: Hidden Wonders! Randy Gilman, artist and model maker, will lead a conversation in Walter Wick: Hidden Wonders! and lead hands-on art making in the studios. The day will also feature a presentation by Stacy Parsons, School-Partnership Coordinator, McKinney Vento Regional Liaison on the importance of keeping students connected to school and the arts.
Event Details:
8:30-9:15 a.m. - Welcome and refreshments provided by the NBMAA
9:30-10:15 a.m. - Tour of Ellen Carey: Struck by Light
10:30-11:15 a.m. - Presentation by Stacy Parsons
11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. - Visual Thinking Strategies to enhance Social Emotional Learning led by Sommer Byers and Stacy Parsons
12:30-1p.m. - Lunch
1:15-2 p.m. - Talk by Randy Gilman
2:15-3 p.m. - Hands-on art making in studios
3-3:30 p.m. - Self-guided time in the galleries
