ABOUT THE EVENT

Sunday Music Series | Sea Chanteys

Join us for a trip back to the Age of Sail with The Broad Reach ensemble. Vocalists Paula Daddio, Celine Robertson, Fran Villano, and Matt Larson, will present sea chanteys, work songs, and ballads from America, the British Isles, and all over the world.

The sea chantey serves as its own distinct genre of work song, once commonly sung aboard sailing vessels to synchronize the tasks of loading, unloading, and operating the ship. Its hallmark was the call and response format between a soloist and the rest of the crew, which helped to coordinate group efforts in the aforementioned tasks.

Sunday Music Series is a longstanding program at the NBMAA that features exceptional performances from a variety of local and regional ensembles.
