ABOUT THE EVENT

Walk-in Tour | Special Exhibition

Guided by a Museum docent, this one-hour tour will explore Kara Walker: Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated), and other current special exhibitions featuring women artists.

Created in collaboration with the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies, New York, each print in Pictorial History is an enlargement of a woodcut plate from Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Chicago, 1866), which Walker has overlaid with silkscreen cutout figures rendered in solid black silhouette. In doing so, Walker considers experiences of racism towards African Americans that were absent or only alluded to in historical representations of the Civil War.

Please note all Special Exhibition Walk-in Tours have been canceled through April 5, and are scheduled to resume on April 11.
