Ways to Give at Work
Support the New Britain Museum of American Art Through Your Workplace Benefits
No matter the size of your paycheck, unlock the potential of your generosity through workplace philanthropy. Your gift to the New Britain Museum of American Art (NBMAA) through your employee benefits program can significantly impact art, creativity, and inspiration – and it may not cost you anything today. If your employer offers any of the benefits below, consider using them to support the NBMAA. Click here for more ways to give.
Matching Gifts
Does your company match charitable donations? Make your gift directly to the NBMAA and follow your company's instructions to get your gift doubled or even tripled! Start by making your contribution today then follow up with your HR department.
Payroll Deduction
Set up a recurring, tax-deductible gift directly through payroll deduction. Your consistent contributions add up and make a significant impact on the NBMAA. American art never stops inspiring, and your generosity doesn't have to either.
Volunteer Hours
Check if your employer offers a volunteer grant program. Volunteer your time and talent at the NBMAA, and your employer may make a donation in your honor. Explore our diverse Volunteer and Docent opportunities at nbmaa.org/volunteer. You never know where your expertise could help out!
Workplace Charitable Giving Campaigns
Many companies participate in charitable giving campaigns through the United Way or other programs. You can designate your gift to the NBMAA when prompted to participate.
Employee Stock Purchase Plans/Stock Options
Use your employee stock purchase plan to buy stock at a discounted price. After holding the stock for the required period, donate your shares to the museum and receive a tax deduction for the full market value while avoiding capital gains tax. Please inform the Museum beforehand when initiating a stock transfer.
Liquidation Events
Working with a financial advisor and the NBMAA before a taxable event such as a stock split, IPO, or company sale can maximize your tax benefits and minimize paperwork with the SEC.
Retirement Plans and Life Insurance
Did you know you can designate the NBMAA as a beneficiary in your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), HSA, or other employer-sponsored financial account? This easy strategy allows you to support the museum's future at no present cost to you.
Simply complete the beneficiary designation form, often found on your plan's website. List the New Britain Museum of American Art as the non-profit or charity beneficiary for all or a percentage of your account. You can update your beneficiary at any time at no cost.
Donor-Advised Charitable Gift Funds
There are three ways to use your employer-sponsored charitable gift fund to support the NBMAA:
Make a one-time gift today.
Set up a recurring gift to support the Museum throughout the year.
Name the NBMAA as the beneficiary of your account. Funds from unclaimed accounts go back to the financial administrator, not the charity you care about.
Legal Benefits
If your employer offers legal benefits, you may be able to create a trust that includes the NBMAA as a beneficiary. Please contact us to learn more about the benefits of planned giving.
