ABOUT THE EVENT

Expanded Field: Photography from the Collection of NBMAA

Join exhibiting artists Marion Belanger and Stephen Petegorsky for a look at their work currently on view in Expanded Field: Photography from the Collection of the NBMAA. Their works examine the concept of "place," capturing quiet, poetic, and haunting images that reflect on the changing landscape of American towns and wilderness. The NBMAA's Director of Education, Cindy Cormier, will open this talk with a look at select works of 19th-century American Hudson River School artists.

Belanger photographs the cultural landscape where the natural and man-made environment intersect. She is the author of several books and was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship for her Everglades series. Petegorsky's work focuses on the Meadows Conservation Area in Northampton, MA, capturing how the landscape changes with the light, weather, and seasons. His work has been exhibited internationally and is in collections throughout this country as well as Europe.
