Permanent Collection Installation | Modern and Contemporary Masterworks from the NBMAA: 1950s to Today

This new installation features iconic masterworks from the NBMAA’s permanent collection, as well as recent gifts and acquisitions, that encompass painting, prints, sculpture, and installation. Highlighting Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism, Pop Art, and Contemporary works, the presentation features American icons including Robert Motherwell, Joan Snyder, Adolf Gottlieb, Louise Nevelson, Isamu Noguchi, Kay Sage, Ellsworth Kelly, Jennifer Bartlett, Jim Dine, Robert Indiana, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, John Baldessari, Nancy Spero, Titus Kaphar, and Kara Walker.

Recent gifts on view include Abraham Rattner’s Old Shoe Arrangement No. IV, 1951 (Gift of Sandra and Howard Fromson) and Joan Snyder’s Screams/Whispers, 1972 (Anonymous gift).

Jennifer Bartlett’s Circle, Line, House from Rhapsody, 1992-93 is on view for the first time in six years, and Tony De Los Reyes’ haunting Pequod (3), 2012 is now on view for the first time in a decade.
