ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Rashmi Talpade: Piecing Together a New Britain Story

Wallingford, Connecticut-based artist Rashmi Talpade uses photo-collages to create works inspired by real and imaginary places. Piecing Together a New Britain Story was a collaborative community project created by local residents under the guidance of the artist over a period of four months. Community members were invited to submit images of New Britain, which were then printed and glued by over 150 participants to create three realistic but imaginary cityscapes of familiar buildings and spaces.

Funded by the Connecticut Office of the Arts and hosted by the New Britain Museum of American Art, this project used over 550 photo images submitted by New Britain residents. This collaborative project brought together diverse communities and multiple age groups through art. Participants ranging from 5 to 103 years old came together to create a piece art to be enjoyed by all.

This is the artist’s seventh community project and first solo exhibition at the NBMAA. Her installation also includes two previous works entitled Winter Garden and Spring Garden.
