Lorna Simpson Bio
Lorna Simpson (born August 13, 1960) is a photographer and multimedia artist best known for her conceptual installations combining photographs and text. Her works explore the themes of identity, race, gender, and the history of representation. Simpson attended the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she received a BFA in Photography. In 1985, she earned an MFA from the University of California, San Diego. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the MoMA, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Whitney, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, among others. Her work has also been featured in Documenta XI in Kassel, Germany and the 56th Venice Biennale; and in 2019, Simpson won the J. Paul Getty Medal.
