Summer Camp & April Vacation Week
2024 Summer Camp Program
Escape the heat and enjoy summer at the Museum with half-day summer camps for ages 6-12. Campers will create their own artworks taking inspiration from the NBMAA’s special exhibitions and permanent collection during weekly three-day sessions (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) and play games outdoors on the Museum’s beautiful grounds.
Week 1 | Exploring drawing, painting, and printmaking
July 9, 10, 11
Experiment with different techniques and styles as we explore the fundamentals of pencil, paint, and print.
Day 1- Pencil drawing inspired by WONDER STORIES: Pulp Art Illustration from the NBMAA Collection
Day 2- Painting inspired by Impressionist art
Day 3- Printmaking using vitreography (printing with plexiglass) and tile printing
Week 2 | Experimenting with Paper
July 16, 17, 18
Taking inspiration from artworks by Justin Favela and Thornton Dial, students will experiment with paper as an artmaking medium to create 2D and 3D creations.
Day 1- A day of paper making and exploring 3D techniques
Day 2- Creating 3D paper flowers out of paper made the previous day
Day 3- Creating Justin Favela and piñata-inspired murals
Week 3 | Crafting Fine Arts

Explore traditional trade skills such as pottery, weaving, beading, and more, leaving students with hand-made decor!
Day 1- Clay pots inspired by different cultures styles
Day 2- Weaving hanging wall designs
Day 3- Wire wrapping and jewelry making
Week 4 | Design Thinking
July 30, 31, August 1
Join our week of problem solving through design thinking as we investigate materials and construction processes used by artists in the Museum’s collection.
Day 1- Creating balanced Chihuly sculptures
Day 2- Designing and building benches out of recycled materials
Day 3- Hanging light sculptures inspired by artist Anila Agha

Looking for something for your kids to do during April Vacation Week?
Spend the mornings at the NBMAA! From 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the Museum will offer hands-on activities themed around our current special exhibitions and newly on view permanent collection pieces, plus indoor floor games (outdoors weather permitting). Ages 6-12.
Wednesday, April 10 - Paper compositions inspired by the work of Justin Favela
Thursday, April 11 - Printmaking inspired by vitreographs—prints produced with a glass plate—from the NBMAA
Friday, April 12 - Paper Lantern and Light Paper play inspired by the works of Anila Quayyum Agha
